The Central Library continued to be an indispensable part in the research and education programme of Geetanjali University. The library supports and reflects the Universityâs pledge to provide the best possible library and information services to its faculty members, research scholars and students. It aspires to achieve this through the acquisition, organization and dissemination of library resources both in print and electronic resources with the guidance of the library committee, active support of the management and dedicated library staff.
The existing reading hall has been made into two reading halls each having a capacity to accommodate 150 students in each hall, where they can carry their personal books. The library is spread over an area of 2400 sq.mts. with a total capacity to accommodate 300 users. Twenty newspapers stands have been provided where users can browse through eleven newspapers every day. The library has computerized all its operations. An institutional repository which includes publications of all faculty members and postgraduate students, previous years question papers, theses and dissertations, has been created. Doctoral theses are being uploaded on Shodhganga-Inflibnet. It is continuous ongoing project.
âIn-Outâ management software and barcode scanners have been installed in the library to track the usage statistics of the library users. The library is enabled with Wi-Fi access and a separate Audio-Visual Room and 50 nods computer lab.
A separate reference section has been setup at the library to enable the research scholars and postgraduate students to manage their bibliography and references for their theses, journal publications and presentations easily and efficiently.
The Central Library offers a range of services including membership, circulation, document delivery, reprography, online browsing and IT-enabled online resources. The main aim of the library continues to be the improvement of the quality of services and facilities achieving higher degree of user satisfaction and modernization of its activities and operations.
Collection building is one of the important functions of the library that supports academic and research activities of the students, faculty members and research scholars. The library has developed a good collection of books, journals and CDs in Medical, Dental, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy and Nursing during this year.
Digital Library is a part of the campus wide network connected by the optic fibre cable network, supported by 1GBPS internet bandwidth. It is equipped with 50 computers to cater to the needs of faculty members, research scholars and students. The library has taken several initiatives to provide Digital Library services to the users. It provides access to a wide range of e-resources which includes e-book, e-journals & online database. Wi-fi connectivity is available in the library reading halls.
The library is computerized with library management software that allows for bar coding of the collection and keep records of the collection in all media, keep track of current arrivals (serials controls) and circulation activities. Printing, Scanning, Copying and Downloading facilities are available for the student and faculty members.
The Central Library of GU has signed an MOU with PrepLadder Pvt. Ltd.for setting up the digital library equipped with the Smart Tablets alongwith its charging stations. Currently the library is having 5 Smart Tablets with complete access of e-learning content which will be increased as per the requirement raised.Â
User Education is a standard and regular activity of the library to educate, alert and inform the users about the various resources and services of the library. In addition to orientation programs organized for new students, the library organized short training programs on âHow to use & access E-resourcesâ for faculty and post graduate students, department wise, so that they are able to use the e-resources subscribed more effectively.
